The Holy Name Council was founded in 2006 through the efforts of Fr. Raymond Sayers and the men of Holy Name Parish. The Council works closely with the parish community, providing resources and support of various projects. For example, Council members volunteer their time at the parish's food and clothing collections, staff Blood Drives and organize annual drives to provide winter coats for children in Detroit and Pontiac. Several Metro Detroit parishes are supported through drives for gently used clothing and non-perishable food items.
In conjunction with the State and National organizations of the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Council collects sweatshirts for the Holy Cross Children's Center, backpacks for underprivileged school children, and funds to support organizations that benefit the developmentally challenged or disabled, including Angel’s Place, Rose Hill and Special Olympics. The Council supports vocations through contributions to Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
The Holy Name Council, consisting of more than 50 members, has raised and distributed more than $200,000 to local charitable organizations. In the fifteen years since it's inception, members of the Council have performed in excess of 20,000 hours of service to the parish and surrounding community.
