Apart from events and programs offered through the parish, the following organizations may offer independent volunteer opportunities for individuals and families.
All Saints Soup Kitchen is a faith community dedicated to the call to feed Christ’s lambs. The ministry is a carrying out of corporal works of mercy. In the interaction with our brothers and sisters, we are providers of nourishment to both body and soul. The All Saints Community seeks to alleviate the hunger of needy persons from the neighborhood through the Soup Kitchen which prepares and serves lunch and by operating All Saints Food Pantry.
Angels’ Place provides people-centered services, including homes and professional support, for adults with developmental disabilities. The 20 homes offer a Christian family environment of love and compassion, coupled with an atmosphere of acceptance, dignity, well-being and the potential for personal growth and acceptance.
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen is a ministry of the Capuchin Province of St Joseph. Inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, they tend to people’s basic needs, especially the need for food. The work to stimulate minds, nourish spirits, and attempt to address root causes of social injustice. Founded in 1929 by Capuchin friars Solanus Casey and Herman Buss, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen serves the people of metro Detroit.
Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM) exists to provide help and give hope – help with life’s most challenging problems, and hope that you can overcome them. The cornerstone of the agency success is the ability to provide easy access to effective and caring programs for families and individuals in greatest need in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Services include adoption and foster care, mental and behavioral health counseling, family support services, Hispanic outreach, immigration and refugee services and services for seniors.
Since 1968, Focus: HOPE has grown to become a nationally renowned civil and human rights organization diligently working to bridge the racial divide in southeast Michigan through our food program, career training programs and HOPE Village Initiative.
A food collection and distribution center in Pontiac serving the under-privileged in Pontiac. Volunteer opportunities include packing snack packs, the backpack program and the empty bowl program where clay bowls are crafted to raise funding.
Humble Design serves individuals, families, and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming empty houses into welcoming homes using donated furniture and household goods. Our warehouses are curated by design teams that personalize homes based on our clients’ needs and preferences. More than a makeover, it’s a start over. Mary’s Children Family Center provides a day program for adults with brain injuries who are beyond the stage of recovery where intense rehabilitation is necessary. Their program is structured and strives to improve functional independence and enhance the quality of life for persons who are overcoming brain injuries and now living in the community. They provide cognitive, physical, occupational and recreational activities enhanced by fellowship, lunch and prayer.
Mary’s Mantle is a Catholic home for expectant mothers. Housing is provided for up to four expectant mothers at a time who are at least eighteen years old, regardless of their religious affiliation. The house is staffed 24 hours a day with two live-in housemothers, a license case manager and support staff. Expectant mothers experience and witness love and healthy relationships. They come to fully understand their responsibilities as mothers.
Monastery of the Blessed Sacrament The home and chapel of cloistered Dominican Sisters who are Monastic and Contemplative. The Sisters live a hidden life of study and humble labor, pondering and living the Word of God in imitation of Mary. Their chapel is open daily from 6:45 am to 5:00 pm for those who need a quiet place to come and pray. All are welcome to join the celebration of the Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Hours, the Rosary, or simply to be with the Lord. Many people support the Sisters through financial contributions, gifts-in–kind and acts of charity and goodwill.
Mother and Unborn Baby Care is dedicated to preventing abortions by helping mothers to continue their pregnancies through Christ-centered peer counseling which is persuasive and informative but sensitive to their emotional and material needs. Mother and Unborn Baby Care offers Free Pregnancy Tests, Services, Educational Classes, and Babies' needs.
The mission of Next is to identify and meet the needs of older adult and persons with disabilities by soliciting and coordinating community resources to provide educational, recreational and social programs, supportive outreach services and volunteer opportunities.
Open Hands Food Pantry provides emergency food and toiletries to residents of Oakland County. Completely staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers, the pantry is open on Monday afternoons and Saturday mornings. In 2013 they served over 12,600 people.
Brother Al and volunteers navigate the Song and Spirit Care’avan, a specially equipped Dodge Sprinter van, reaching out to the underserved and those in need in more outlying regions. Assisted by volunteers of various religious beliefs, Song and Spirit’s commitment to social justice and outreach brings together people of diverse faiths and cultures for the common cause of community service.
To collect needed food items and paper products, they partner with kids of all ages from suburban and private schools, parishes and congregations of diverse religious traditions, as well as community groups, youth groups and high school seniors in need of community service hours. Volunteers decorate SnackPax bags, pick up food items, assemble SnackPax for distribution, load the Care’avan, and help distribute the SnackPax to classrooms throughout the school year, and as arranged with day camps and other children’s programs during the summer months.
Located in Southfield, Michigan, St. Anne's Mead's aims to provide a senior community offering compassionate and professional health care and supportive services in a safe, secure, and loving home. In keeping with their faith-based traditions, they endeavor to serve the unique needs of individuals and their families while preserving their dignity and enriching their lives
Their mission is to help meet the daily needs of some of the most vulnerable in the Brightmoor community of Detroit, assisting everyone with deep respect and dignity. The primary ways that volunteers can contribute is through the preparation and serving of soup kitchen meals and the packing, storing and distribution of groceries for the food pantry. Lastly there is a garden on the property which may be a seasonal means of volunteering.
Each month at St. Dominic Outreach Center, hundreds of eligible individuals and families living in our community receive bags of groceries, clean high-quality clothing, new cribs and mattresses for newborn infants, and hygiene supplies. The Center hosts a "Summer Fun Day" neighborhood picnic each July, a "Back to School" party to distribute school supplies each September, and a Christmas season "Holiday Party" in cooperation with Wayne State University each December. St. Dominic Outreach Center also distributes food baskets to families each Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter as well as gifts at Christmas.
St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center SVSFC provides educational programs, basic skill building and learning enhancement for at-risk children and adults, designed to build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity.
Therapaws is a canine-assisted therapy program dedicated to promoting and fostering the human-animal bond in therapeutic and educational settings. They serve hospitals, extended care facilities, assisted living communities, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric centers, schools and libraries.
