Often called "confession" or "reconciliation", this Sacrament emerged out of the early Church's recognition that after Baptism many people feel the need for forgiveness and healing of their relationship with God.
The Sacrament is usually celebrated one-on-one in a confidential setting; through the dialogue the penitent comes to understand both his/her sin and celebrate the freedom and peace Christ attained for us in His Death-Resurrection.
During Advent and Lent, the Sacrament is often celebrated with a communal examination of conscience followed by individual confession of sins to a priest and individual absolution.
While Holy Name Parish creates a special examination each Advent and Lent, many versions of an examination of conscience (in preparation for the dialogue) are available.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available at 3:00pm every Saturday.
A person may always schedule an appointment for the Sacrament by calling the Parish Office, 248.646.2244.
