Our Parish Family congratulates you on this important step in your life. We are aware of the enormous amount of time and energy you will put into the planning and arranging for your wedding day. We are also concerned with your preparation for wedded life and hope to help you prepare for this most significant event of your lives.
The Roman Catholic Bishops of Michigan, as of January 1, 1981, stated that a couple wishing to marry in the Catholic Church must contact a priest at least six months prior to the wedding. This guideline was made to give the couple and the priest celebrating the wedding adequate time for preparation.
Weddings may be celebrated in Holy Name Church:
Fridays anytime from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Saturdays at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.
Pre-Marital Inventory (PMI)
All couples wishing to marry here at Holy Name are required to take a pre-marital inventory entitled “Prepare.” This inventory is an aid for discussion with couples, surfacing strengths and weaknesses, common interests and concerns regarding communication, family, faith, finances, in-laws, etc. After setting your date, contact Deacon Michael McKale (313.319.1853 or 248.643.0990) to register for the “Prepare Inventory” which you will complete on-line. Once completed, Judy Corace will assign a mentor couple to discuss the results with you. This couple will be responsible for facilitating the rehearsal and wedding day.
Couples are required to attend a Pre-Marriage Workshop or Seminar before their marriage. There are many different types such as: The Pre-Marriage Seminar, Marriage Preparation Programs, Covenant Love,Engaged Encounter, etc. The mentor couple will give you the information. After you have taken the workshop, please give the certificate you received to the mentor couple assigned to you. We suggest most strongly Michael and Lori Ebaugh’s The Pre-Marriage Seminar at (248.685.2868) or online atwww.premarriageseminar.com.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) will not be celebrated at the wedding rehearsal. You are asked to avail yourself to the weekend schedule for confessions.
Since the wedding ceremony involves both of you, it is fitting that you both participate actively in planning the details of your liturgical celebration of marriage; there are many options from which you may choose. The celebrant will help you in this part of preparation. Please use the booklet TOGETHER FOR LIFE and the Wedding Ceremony Preparation Sheet in preparing the ceremony.
A mentor couple from the parish is assigned to every bridal couple. Normally, they will take you through the pre-marriage instrument, rehearsal and wedding.
After you have settled in your new home, please make an effort to register in a local parish. (This should be done even if you continue to live in Holy Name’s Parish.) The pastor would probably want to know that a newly married couple has moved into in his parish. Join the parish and become actively involved; the faith community needs your presence and participation on a regular basis.
